The war against spam

Spam is more than annoying. It goes beyond an annoyance; it costs us time and money as we trawl through our emails everyday trying to sort the genuine from the fake.

Spammers are constantly keeping one-step ahead and I’m sure the battle will last for many years to come.

There is, however, a new approach to stopping spam email which works on the basis that Spammers lists are created automatically using software that trawls the internet collecting email addresses from websites. This software is generally known as "Spiders".

If it were possible to corrupt these lists by filling them with a high proportion of ‘nonsense’ email addresses then the spammers would have to regularly abandon their lists and create new ones. This wouldn’t be a ‘solution’ but would definitely slow them down and cause them problems! Also, if you happened to find your email address on one of these lists, it would mean that you wouldn’t just be there ‘forever’.

This is why I created this page. Towards the bottom of this page you'll see a list of 50 randomly generated email addresses. To the human eye they're quite obviously nonsense and fake but to a piece of software trawling the internet looking for email addresses, they are real.

To add insult to injury, this page also links to itself and other pages containing fake email addresses. Besides the original 50 fake email addresses, the visiting ‘Spider’ is provided with another set of fake addresses plus hundreds more as it reloads the page.

Can you help?

If you have a website or blog and want to help you can add a link to this page from your site by including one of the following:

For a simple text link, you can add the following code to your site:

<p>
<a href="http://www.7wd.co.uk/spam.php" target="_blank" >Anti spam</a>
</p>

Which will look something like this:

Anti spam

Or, if you’d like an image as the link include this code in your website:

<p>
<a href="http://www.7wd.co.uk/spam.php" style="border:none; text-decoration:none; background:none">
<img border="0" src="http://www.7wd.co.uk/images/623874.gif" />
</a>
</p>

Which will look like this:

The fake addresses

Finally, if you were wondering what the fake addresses look like, the list looks like this:
